I like your dream. Here's hoping it catches on :-) Reluctantly, I think I'm agreeing with Brian about not using the Louse as the NaNoWriMo project. I say "reluctantly", because this guy is just begging to wind up in a very black comedy. The "reading list" alone... But, not yet, 'cause I think you should do something FUN! IMHO. I found this (http://www.turningpointservices.org/Domestic%20Violence%20-%20Power%20and%20Control%20Wheel.htm), which looks to me like a good overview of the abuser tool box. It might help as a reality check; girlfriend, it is SO not you. Man, that level of selfishness is pretty amazing. There's an intense, violent scene in "Fargo" that I love nevertheless because it tells a truth. [Spoiler Alert:] The "funny looking" bad guy (Steve Buscemi) has at this point in the movie participated in three murders by gunshot, and is in the midst of committing a fourth. The victim shoots back at him, and the bullet deeply grazes his face. Bad Guy screams, "You shot me!" as much in amazement (i.e. "How dare you!") as in pain. He then finishes emptying the gun into the fourth victim. For him, all those deaths and gunshots never quite reach into his reality, because it's not his life or his pain. And, somehow, he sees himself as exempt from the suffering he inflicts on others. Sound familiar? Anywho, if you ever want to "take back the Shrew", I recommend renting the Joseph Papp Shakesphere in the Park documentary, "Kiss Me Petruchio", with Meryl Streep and Raul Julio (bless his biteable soul). It's romantic as hell, and about as far from abuse fodder as one can get.

I still think you shouldn't write about Louse for your Nanowrimo novel, but I like Kell's thought about a very black comedy. Rather than making the Louse the subject of your whole novel (and wouldn't he just love that?), make him some small, unimportant little side character who gets beat up or otherwise dismissed. Then you can have cathartic fun without giving the Louse any more importance in your life.

He really was a jackass and you deserve to forget about him and find somebody else.

Kell: Spoiler alert not necessary; I love Fargo. I never made the connection between the Louse and Steve Buscemi's character, but wow, how apt!

Kell and Brian: I think you two are onto something! The Louse definitely deserves to be some minor, ridiculous character - his puffery and bombast utterly deflated. Hmm.. now all I need is a plot!
