*gasp* Deep Impact was NOT a bad movie! It is woefully underrated and easily the best of all of the disaster movies of the late 90's and really discredited by its assosication with such lesser flicks like Armageddon. That reminds me, I meant to write in my blog about Deep Impact. Can't remember if I ever did, actually. hehe

Hee! Perhaps I was being a bit harsh; I only saw it once, and it was with two friends who sat and whispered slights about the acting to me during the whole movie. And god knows Armageddon was wretched; I could be staining Deep Impact with that broad brush.. :-)

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think you've written about Deep Impact, because I think I would have remembered, because my brain loves movie trivia, no matter how trivial.

Funny, I was thinking last night (while in the shower, for some reason) about how sometimes the people I see a movie with can unduly influence my opinion of it (one reason I often enjoy seeing movies alone.) For example (and as a Kevin Smith fan, I'm ashamed to admit this), I first saw Dogma with a guy I was dating, and he HATED it, and I know I was really taken aback by the violence and I didn't know what to make of it, and I remember thinking something like "oh, I don't think Dogma was so good compare to the others" for the longest time. Then it ocurred to me, duh, I really love Kevin Smith another try and there you go, now it's one of my favorites.

Just a long-winded explanation of why maybe I'll have to give Deep Impact another chance.. :-)

Geez, what kind of proof-reading was that?

Although, does anyone actually read these, anyway? ;-)

I'm reading! :-P Well, in fairness, I was in a very good frame of mind when I first saw Deep Impact. I went out with my roommates on the last day of finals my Sophomore year. So, aside from being giddy with year-end happiness, I was also hanging out with my roommates which was nice, too. But, I do contend the movie is pretty strong, has a solid cast with Morgan Freeman playing a great President. I also like that it doesn't pull its punches, unlike a certain Affleck oriented disaster film. I also wanted to say that I love that Onion gag, too. Its so much more than a headline, too! I don't know if you get the whole thing on the desk calendar, but go to http://www.theonion.com/previous_history.html (this link won't work after next Wednesday; well, not for the "I had a dream" gag) "I had a dream I was in Yankee Stadium, but it was not really Yankee Stadium. It seemed more like a combination of Yankee Stadium and my house..." hehe. I just find that very funny for some reason.

Oh my god, that Onion article was hilarious! I only got the headline on the desk calendar.

The amusing thing about the Onion desk calendars is there are enough times where the headline is risque or otherwise offensive enough that I need to turn the calendar so no one else can see it for the day. Headlines such as the "Christopher Reeve Placed on top of Washington Monument" just don't fly so well in a social work center.. :-)
